Education & Awareness

The CCSA and its regional affiliates are committed to ensuring the responsible retailing of age-restricted products. To ensure retailer compliance, the CCSA offers education and awareness programs including the We Expect ID age-verification training and a contraband awareness course. This training and education has been promoted extensively as a proactive approach to avoid future channel regulations.

Understanding the Grey Market – Best Practice Recommendations

Grey market goods – confectionery and beverage products manufactured in other countries not authorized for sale in Canada – are flooding the Canadian marketplace. These products are putting Canadian consumers and businesses at risk since they are not labelled to Canadian standards and may have improper allergy alerts; and recalls in other countries won’t reach Canadian consumers.

Consumer welfare and industry financial losses have prompted the CCSA and NACDA to come up with a strategy to prevent the buying and selling of grey market products in Canada. The Associations have put together and distributed a best practices document to inform retailers of the legal, health and financial risks of selling these goods and aide them in identifying grey market products.

Roadmap to Growth

In our continuing effort to help convenience store retailers grow their sales, the CCSA and NACDA have embarked on an extensive project called the "Roadmap to Growth”. The Roadmap project focuses on customer perception data collected about the industry that can be used to help retailers identify where they can improve operations to retain existing customers or attract new ones. This project has been broken down into “bite-size pieces” that can give retailers specific, easy to understand operational recommendations on various parts of their business.

See the introductory video on the Roadmap to growth project below.
